Notes

Rev. Samuel Watson (1773–January 16, 1821) was an Old Light Calvinist minister born in Barrington, Rhode Island, to Matthew Watson Jr. and Avis Adams. After graduating from Brown University in 1794, he was ordained and installed as the pastor of the Barrington Congregational Church on February 28, 1798. He led the congregation until approximately 1818. During his tenure, he notably secured permission to run a lottery to raise funds for the church building. In addition to his ministerial duties, Watson helped establish the Barrington Library Association and served as its librarian. He married Martha Turpin Bicknell in 1799, and they had three children: Matthew, Eliza, and Sabra.
