Israel Selden Spencer III (August 1, 1762 – March 5, 1837) was a Revolutionary War soldier and church deacon born in East Haddam, Connecticut. The son of Deacon Israel Spencer and Elizabeth Marsh, he enlisted as a private in the American Revolution at age fourteen and was later placed on the New London County pension roll in 1832. In 1783, he married Temperance Brockway, with whom he raised a large family, including ship captain William Spencer. In October 1802, Spencer succeeded his father as deacon of the Hadlyme Congregational Church, serving in this office until 1833. Spencer ultimately relocated to Port Gibson, Mississippi, where he died and was buried in Wintergreen Cemetery.
