Notes

Thomas Fuller was a maritime captain active in the Connecticut River region during the early nineteenth century. He served as the master of several vessels, including the ship Julia, the Morning Star, the Nancy, and the sloop Juliet. The Juliet, a 66-ton vessel built in East Haddam, Connecticut, in 1810, was engaged in the coasting trade out of the Middletown customs district between 1810 and 1823. Maritime registers also list a “Thomas Fuller II” of East Haddam, who is likely this same shipmaster. While genealogical records document multiple men named Thomas Fuller residing in East Haddam during this era—including a Dr. Thomas Fuller (1771–1836) who married Stattira Chapman—available sources lack the matching details necessary to definitively link the ship captain to a specific local family or to any profession outside of his maritime career.
