Rev. John David Gardiner (1781–September 13, 1849) was a Presbyterian clergyman who served as pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Sag Harbor, New York, from 1812 to 1832. Born to John and Esther (Hedges) Gardiner, he was a seventh-generation descendant of Lion Gardiner, the first proprietor of Gardiner’s Island. After receiving his early education at Clinton Academy, he graduated from Yale College in 1804. He married twice, first in February 1804 to Frances Mulford of East Hampton, who died in March 1814. In November 1814, he married Mary L’Hommedieu, widow of Nathan Cook. He fathered ten children between his two marriages, including Reverend Abraham Gardiner.
