Rev. Dr. John Chester (August 17, 1785 – January 12, 1829) was a Presbyterian minister born in Wethersfield, Connecticut, to Hon. Col. John Chester. He graduated from Yale College in 1804, studied theology under Rev. Dr. Joseph Lyman, and was licensed to preach in 1807. After brief preaching stints in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Cooperstown, New York, Chester was ordained as pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Hudson, New York (1810–1815). He subsequently served as pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church in Albany from 1815 until his death. An active institutional leader, Chester was a trustee of the Albany Academy and Albany Female Academy, a director of the Princeton Theological Seminary, and the 1823 Moderator of the Presbyterian General Assembly. He received an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Union College in 1821. Chester married Rebecca Ralston in 1818 and died in Philadelphia.
