Notes
Walter Paine (1776–1861) was a church deacon and War of 1812 veteran who resided in Connecticut and Rhode Island. Born in Woodstock, Connecticut, to Amos Paine and Priscilla Lyon, he married his first wife, Lydia Snow, in 1800. While historical records conflict on whether their marriage occurred in Rhode Island or Vermont, they had six children born in Providence between 1801 and 1811. During his time in Providence, he served as a deacon for the Second Congregational Church.. Following military service from 1812 to 1815, he married his second wife, Abigail Bacon, in 1817 or 1818, and they had three children together. He later lived in Woodstock and Pomfret, Connecticut, according to 1840 and 1850 census records. He died in Pomfret in 1861 at age 84 and was buried in Providence.
