Notes
Timothy Green (April 2, 1737 – March 10, 1796) was a prominent printer and publisher residing in New London, Connecticut. The son of printer Samuel Green and Abigail Clark, he apprenticed under his uncle in the family printing business. In 1763, the same year he married Rebecca Spooner, Green assumed control of the Connecticut Gazette from his brother Thomas, renaming it the New London Gazette. Expanding his enterprise, he established a secondary printing house in Norwich in 1773 with his brother-in-law, Judah Paddock Spooner. Green also served as the official printer to the Connecticut colony. He formed a partnership with his son Samuel in 1789, operating as “Timothy Green and Son” until ill health forced his retirement in 1793. Among his eleven children, several followed him into the printing and bookselling trades.
