Notes

John Dolbeare (September 29, 1745 – April 9, 1806) was a landowner and early resident of Montville, Connecticut. The eldest son of George Dolbeare and Mary Sherwood, he inherited a several-hundred-acre farm and a residence on the old Colchester Road, where he settled permanently. On December 22, 1769, he married Sarah Raymond, daughter of Christopher Raymond and Eleanor Fitch, and the couple had thirteen children who all lived to maturity. An established member of his community, Dolbeare was admitted to the privileges of a freeman upon Montville’s incorporation on October 12, 1786, and was referred to as “Esquire” in burial records. Following his death at age 60, his extensive agricultural estate was divided among his children. He was buried in Montville’s Raymond Hill Cemetery, and his wife survived him until 1828.
