Notes

Oliver Crane (September 29, 1765 – August 31, 1817) was a civic and religious figure in Essex County, New Jersey. Born in Cranetown (now Montclair) to William Crane, he resided in a stone house built by his father and was later recorded as living in West Bloomfield. He married Susannah Baldwin, with whom he had several children. Crane served as an overseer of highways in 1797 and participated in the War of 1812. A prominent local churchman, he helped fund the construction of the Caldwell Presbyterian Church in 1794, where he subsequently served as an elder and deacon. Crane died unexpectedly at age 51 after being kicked in the chest by a horse outside the Caldwell meeting-house. Surviving just long enough to dictate a nuncupative will, he divided his estate among his wife and surviving children.
